Understand your breathing.
Learn how to train it.
Learn to recognise your breathing habits at rest, during exercise and when you feel under pressure, then practise ways to change them.
Functional breathing training focuses on your everyday breathing habits: the amount of air you breathe, breathing movement and pace.
Notice your breathing
Recognise your current habits and learn about the Body Oxygen Level Test (BOLT), a comfortable breath-hold measure used to guide practice. It is not a diagnostic test.
Practise light, low and slow
Explore breathing volume, lower-rib movement and pace through guided Oxygen Advantage® exercises, with demonstrations and coaching on technique.
Explore breath holds and breathing control
Learn how appropriately selected breath-hold exercises are used to train breathing control and tolerance to air hunger, and how they relate to breathing during exercise. Guided practice will be adapted to your starting point, health screening and comfort.
Put it into practice
Explore breathing during movement, after stress and as you prepare for sleep.

Frequently asked questions.
Suitability, preparation and booking details.
Can I take part if I’m pregnant?
Do not practise breath holds during pregnancy. Oxygen Advantage® also advises avoiding exercises that create air hunger in the first trimester, and moderate or strong air hunger later in pregnancy. Contact Paul before booking to discuss whether suitable parts of the workshop are available to you, and seek advice from your maternity healthcare professional.
What if I have a health condition?
Some conditions rule out stronger breath holds, even when gentler breathing practices may be appropriate. OA advises avoiding holds beyond mild air hunger with conditions including heart disease, high or low blood pressure, diabetes, obstructive sleep apnoea, panic disorders, Long COVID and recent surgery or medical instability. Further restrictions apply to extended holds, including a history of fainting or stroke, uncontrolled asthma and severe COPD.
This is not a complete list. Read the Oxygen Advantage® safety guidance and contact Paul before booking if you have a condition or concern. Seek medical advice where appropriate. An intake review or BOLT score does not replace medical clearance.
Do I have to do breath holds?
No. Breath holds are optional. Paul will review your intake responses and discuss appropriate adjustments. You may be able to observe or listen while skipping exercises that are not suitable for you.
What happens after I book?
Pay securely in US dollars through Calendly to complete your booking. Your confirmation includes the Zoom joining details. Complete the private Oxygen Advantage® intake form promptly after booking and before participating, so Paul can review your responses and discuss any adjustments with you.
What if the workshop isn’t suitable for me?
If Paul finds that the workshop is not suitable for you, your workshop payment will be refunded in full.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 48 hours before the workshop for a full refund. Later cancellations and non-attendance are considered individually, without a routine refund promise. Approved refunds are processed within 14 calendar days. Applicable consumer rights remain unaffected.
Read the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
Do I need previous experience?
No. Paul will explain and demonstrate the practices, then guide you through them.
Do I need to be fit?
No. Movement is optional. You can practise seated, take a gentler approach or watch a demonstration.
What do I need?
A stable chair, a quiet space and a device that lets you see and hear the instruction. Have clear floor space if you want to join the movement practices.
Can I attend from overseas?
Yes. In the listed North American time zones, the workshop is on Saturday, November 21. Check your date and time when booking. Checkout is in US dollars.
